The specialist is often required to remotely support a work process at certain hours (for example, answer calls). In this case, there is no question of a free schedule, but it is quite possible to combine such work with something else (with other work or with childcare).
Cons of remote work
A specialist who works outside the office, in most cases, does not see his boss often. Someone can do it once a week, someone – once every six months. Many people think about it as an advantage: as they say, they are away from the boss, closer to the kitchen, they have less stress. However, this advantage in practice often turns into a lack of remote work — a lack of feedback from the boss. A remote employee does not always receive a timely assessment of their work, which slows down professional growth and makes it difficult to master new competencies.
Work from home jobs are connected with the lack of communication. A person does not often see his colleagues. The employee lacks operational information, both official (for example, about dismissals and appointments) and unofficial (about the reasons for the same dismissals). However, in some companies, this is partially overcome by using an internal corporate portal or online services.
